Hair care is self care

Let’s talk about hair. Taking care of your hair is one of the most important things you can do to boost your appearance. Today I’m going to be sharing with you some top tips on how to keep your hair healthy and looking incredible at the same time.

  • Avoid split ends // you can do this by getting your hair trimmed at least every 8 weeks. Even if you’re trying to grow your hair, it is so important to get it trimmed to keep it silky and luscious. You can also use hair oil on the ends of your hair. This prevents split ends so much.
  • Have a good wash routine // Having a good hair wash routine is SO important. Depending on your hair, figure out how often you need to wash it. If you have really oily hair, probably about 3 times a week, but if you don’t, then probably only twice a week. When washing your hair, if you have time, try to add a hair mask or oil to your entire hair. I like to use coconut oil with mine, and I just completely cover my hair, ends and scalp, with oil for at least half an hour before I wash it. It makes such a difference!
  • Use protective hair styles to sleep in // this is also so important. If you’re tying your hair up, use soft silk scrunchies or I like to use spiral hair ties. These are really good because they don’t leave an indent on your hair. Some protective hairstyles are: plaits, twisted bun, pony tail (not a tight one).
  • TRY NOT TO USE HEAT ON YOUR HAIR AND IF YOU DO USE A HEAT PROTECTOR!!!!! // this is sosososososo important. I have very thick curly hair, and I straighten my hair for school (I’ll explain later) and I only started using a heat protector in the last year. It has made such a difference, and although it still isn’t good for my hair, It is so much better.

Now for my curly girls. I am half Latina, and have thick curly hair. I used to hate my hair, and I would straighten it every day, which would kill it. I still do straighten my hair, but nowhere near as much. I really used to struggle with my hair, and had absolutely no idea what do do with it, or how to take care of it, until I finally figured it out. So now I will share it with you.

  • don’t wash your hair more than twice a week. Washing your hair puts weight on the curls, which will eventually make the curls heavier and less defined. Don’t always be wetting your hair either, even though you aren’t washing it, it has the same effect on the curls.
  • Find a good routine. I have watched so many curly hair routines, and I’ve picked up a lot from all of them. What I do is wash my hair with Shea Moisture curl shampoo and conditioner, brush it when the conditioner is in, and just after I’ve rinsed it out, flip my hair upside down and pat it dry, then I run a decent amount of Shea Moisture Curl Define Milk through my hair (Shea Moisture is amazing). I scrunch it with a towel, then leave it to air fry for about 15 minutes until it’s almost dry. Then I diffuse it, and put a bit of hairspray over it to keep the curls.
  • To sleep, I only very recently figured this out. Sleep with a ponytail, but use a silk scrunchie, and only tie it very loosely. Don’t lie on it, have it above you head in the pillow.
